East Dorset welcomed the Frost & Co Dorset Open 2016 from Sunday 31st July to Saturday 6th August, supervised by Tournament Referee Kris Dymond.
It was a busy week, with lots of competitive junior and adult matches, singles and doubles, and we welcomed juniors from across the country, including a group of youngsters from Scotland. Play continued despite tricky conditions in the opening days, but fortunately the weather improved as the week went on and the schedule caught up with itself.

It was another successful week for East Dorset’s Louis Allen, who came third in the Men’s Singles, runner-up in the 18U Singles and Doubles, and won the Men’s Doubles with partner Liam Hignett – great play Louis!
Thanks to Kris and all the club volunteers who helped make the event a success, including Catherine, Sue and Liz at the tournament desk and all the match supervisors. In total 336 matches were played… so it was certainly a busy week!
Special congratulations go to Charlie Newman, winner of the Betty Booth Sportsmanship Award 2016, who showed great sportsmanship and enjoyment of the game throughout the week.
Are you looking for new people to play with but don’t want to enter a box league? Or would you like to have a hit midweek but don’t know who else is around? Then sign up for our Casual Hitters list and find yourself some people to play with!
We currently have 17 ladies and 14 men signed up, so that’s plenty of people to start arranging some singles or doubles. The lists are displayed on the Tennis Noticeboard in the club verandah, along with a sign up sheet for new players. All you have to do is give your name and contact details, and describe your general playing standard and availability. Then it’s a case of making some phone calls and arranging some games!
Help spread the word amongst club members, and enjoy your tennis!
