Welcome to the Bridge Section
Welcome to the Bridge Section
The EDLT&CC Bridge Section is renowned for its friendliness — and its tea breaks. We believe that this has created an atmosphere, unique in the area, where people come to enjoy playing bridge together. The Section is now taking on a limited number of new members who play Bridge at a reasonable level. Non-members may play in the quarterly Chicago Bridge drives and attend any of the Bridge courses, and additionally non-members may visit the Club up to four times a year on Monday evenings or Friday afternoons.
The Club plays Chicago and Duplicate Bridge; Rubber Bridge is no longer played as it has become an unpopular format at this and many other clubs. Monday evening is for cut-in and pairs Chicago, alternating each week. Wednesday evening is Duplicate for pre-arranged partnerships (owing to its popularity, non-members may not attend). Friday afternoon is cut-in Chicago but with an emphasis on tuition where players are encouraged to ask for help and guidance with their bidding and card play.
Each year we offer a variety of courses, open to all. Tuition is given in a very relaxed and informal manner by an enthusiastic and very knowledgeable Terry Wood. This year — 2012 — the last course in the ‘Back to Basics’ series is being held. It is designed to reinforce proper bidding and card play technique for those who may have recently learned Bridge, or who have played for some time but feel their Bridge needs improvement.
Other courses have already been held covering Stayman and Transfers, Opening Leads, Competitive Bidding, and Slam Bidding lasting two evenings each, and Beginners and Improvers course lasting 12 evenings. It is likely these some of these courses will be run again in the future in line with demand, so keep an eye on this web site for details. Tuition fees for attending courses depend on the length of the course and are inclusive of course notes and refreshments.
Currently, membership is £35.00 per annum with table money of £1 for members and £2 for non-members including tea and biscuits during evening play. The section is now open to a limited number of new members who can already play Bridge.
