As a new initiative we are going to collect old tennis balls at the club. The balls we collect will be sent off for recycling and will be donated to various charities including Save The Children, NSPCC, Barnardo’s, under privileged Nurseries/Schools, Children’s Homes as well as other good causes such as police dogs, armed forces dogs, animal rescue centres & dog shelters & the RSPCA.
The club was proud to host an LTA Grade 3 tourament at the start of August, the Frost & Co Dorset Open 2017, and apart from one day of rain on the Wednesday the event ran smoothly and we saw some high quality tennis! Thanks to all the players who took part, adults and juniors, and we hope you all enjoyed the experience! Congratulations to our winners and runners-up, including East Dorset’s Louis Allen who won the Boys 18U Singles event, and we hope to see you all again next year!
Well played everyone in today’s Club Championships Finals, it was a great day’s tennis and there was a real buzz about the club Thanks to Sue Hobden and Ros Topple for organising (and managing to play their matches as well), and thanks to the rain for staying away til the presentation ceremonies!
Here’s a handy guide to all the home tennis fixtures in May… including Hants League, NCL and Over 45s matches:
Following on from last term’s box leagues, Dan will be running a new set of box leagues to give you the opportunity to play some matches over the winter period.
The box leagues will involve arranging matches with other players in your box at times to suit you and then passing the results back to Dan so he can keep the boxes up to date. Matches are best of 3 sets, if 1-1 then the 3rd will be decided by a 10 point tiebreak.
Entries are £5 and the deadline for entries will be Monday 13th March.
If you wish to hear more or you would like to sign up then please contact Dan either by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by mobile 07475 447272.
Hope to hear from you soon!

We would like to play tribute to Karen Adams, a tennis member at East Dorset for 36 years, who has recently stepped down from her role as Ladies County Captain after many years of captaincy. Karen has been a Dorset County Tennis player since 1979 representing Dorset at all age groups, including playing for over 20 years in the ladies county team. She has won many doubles titles during her time as a member at East Dorset, and has also been a member of West Hants Club for 11 years. Karen assumed the role as Ladies County Captain in 1997 serving on the council and since 2011 was part of the Dorset Executive Committee. Many members at East Dorset will remember Karen organising the Around the World static cycle challenge which was held at the club in 2011 with everyone wearing pink branded sweatshirts and cycling around the clock on exercise bikes in the function room. This event raised over £45,000 for the Dorset Cancer Centre at Poole Hospital, a cause which Karen decided to raise money for after receiving treatment. Karen lives in Poole and is currently a Station Manager for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service and the Fire Brigade union representative. In addition to her love of tennis, she is also a keen AFC Bournemouth supporter. Karen’s many years of service to Dorset tennis was recognised at the recent Dorset County LTA AGM at the West Hants Club.
