Outline of How to Play Golf Croquet
Each side has two balls — red and yellow against blue and black. A side may be one or two players — singles or doubles. In singles a player strikes both the balls for that side. In doubles a player only strikes one of the balls.

The balls are played in order — blue, red, black, yellow.

The balls are played from the starting corner. Players first try to go through (known as running) the first hoop. The first side to run the hoop scores one point and then all players move on to the next hoop. 13 hoops are contested, so the first side to gain 7 points wins.

Balls hit off the court are replaced on the boundary.

The croquet court measures 28 by 35 yards. On it are placed 6 hoops and a peg. There are 13 hoops to play for. Each hoop is contested in turn, the first side to run the hoop scoring 1 point.

Balls are played in turn from the starting corner.

The hoops are eighth inch wider than the balls.

Where a you are not in a position to run a hoop, tactics to help your side and frustrate the opponent's objectives include:

  • taking position in front of the hoop ready to run it next time
  • hitting your ball onto an opponent's ball to prevent it running a hoop (it is especially good to do this in a way that leaves your ball in a position to run the hoop next time)
  • hitting your ball in front of a hoop to prevent an opponent running it easily (it is possible to cause a ball to jump over another and score the hoop that way, but it is clearly more difficult)
  • hitting your ball onto the other ball of your side to place it in a position to run its hoop
  • hitting a ball into the hoop from behind to prevent an opponent's ball running it (unless it is jumped)

Games last about 45 minutes on average.
