The WESTERNS tournament is one of the first top level events of the UK croquet year and takes place at East Dorset on 12th – 14th May. There are already several world class players entered including the reigning ladies world champion.
Croquet not only requires all the usual skills of bat and ball games but also demands tactical awareness. But don’t worry, if you come to watch there will be somebody there who can explain the tactics and the skill required.
EDLTCC Croquet Section has set up the opportunity for Poole U3A to offer an “Introduction to Golf Croquet” course on specified Thursday mornings during the U3A summer term. If you know of anyone currently involved with Poole U3A who potentially might be interested in Croquet, please suggest that they register their interest by contacting U3A’s Rod Turner, email: email@example.com as soon as possible – the course commences on Thursday 11 May 2017. The Club requests all Members to be welcoming to the U3A attendees and to proffer assistance as required. It is hoped that, on completion of the course, a proportion of the attendees will be attracted into full Croquet membership and thus become part of our extended ‘family’.

Following on from last term’s box leagues, Dan will be running a new set of box leagues to give you the opportunity to play some matches over the winter period.
The box leagues will involve arranging matches with other players in your box at times to suit you and then passing the results back to Dan so he can keep the boxes up to date. Matches are best of 3 sets, if 1-1 then the 3rd will be decided by a 10 point tiebreak.
Entries are £5 and the deadline for entries will be Monday 13th March.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Many members of our club willingly give up their time and resources to help support the club on a voluntary basis, so we’re pleased to announce that the Executive Committee has agreed to introduce a recognition scheme to formally record and reward the efforts of our volunteers!
The Committee has agreed to introduce a quarterly scheme continuing through the years on a quarterly basis, with a new Volunteer of the Quarter
announced at the end of March, June, September and December. Each Volunteer of the Quarter will be rewarded with a £50 voucher, as a thank you for their contribution to the club.
Our first ever Volunteer of the Quarter is Mark Hamann, in recognition of his hard work in organising the club’s fireworks night last November, as well as being our Wimbledon Ballot Administrator. Well done Mark!
Nominations for the scheme should be sent to Penny Simmonds, Club Secretary, for discussion and agreement at an Executive Committee meeting. Penny can be contacted on firstname.lastname@example.org
Our recent Musical Night featuring the club’s super group ‘The Hard Court Rockers’ was a great success, with all tickets sold and everyone enjoying an evening of music and dance (plus a buffet supper by Blue Hill Cafe).
Thanks to everyone who came along and enjoyed the show, and we look forward to welcoming you to our next social event soon!
