We’re excited to announce that the catering and bar services at East Dorset have been taken over by Claudine and Colette of Blue Hill Cafe & Bar, who’ll be opening for business on Monday 14th November.
Colette recently told us: “Blue Hill is excited to be starting at East Dorset on Monday 14th November with our chef Catherine who has almost 20 years of catering experience.
As we are heading into the festive season we will be taking bookings for your Christmas lunches. Please speak to a member of our staff to secure your booking. Reservations will start from Monday 21st November.
We look forward to meeting you all soon and serving you our delicious and creative menu!”

Blue Hill will be providing a broader service than previously available, including longer opening hours (weekdays, all day Saturdays, and Sunday mornings 10am – 2pm), and they’ll be investing in a new coffee machine 🙂
We look forward to welcoming Claudine and Colette soon and hope that you’ll all support our new cafe and bar service at every opportunity!
Our annual bonfire and fireworks extravaganza on Saturday 5th November was a roaring success, with record numbers of people attending and a fantastic total raised for the club development fund.
A big thanks to our sponsors Humphries Kirk
, Sam FM and Frost & Co, as well as to all the club members who volunteered on the night (and with the clean up the following morning!) – we couldn’t have done it without you!
Thanks for your support and see you all next year!
We hope you can join us for a friendly American Doubles tournament on Wednesday evening, to mark the end of this half-term. This will run instead of the usual club evening.
Led by Emma, play will start at 6pm so please arrive a bit early if you can for a warm up and to be sorted into fours. Otherwise please let Emma know in advance that you’ll be attending. It would also help greatly if everyone can play through to 8pm, to ensure that numbers remain constant.
You’re all invited to the clubhouse after play for nibbles and, if you’re lucky, prize presentations!
The mornings are a bit fresher and the evenings are starting to draw in… so it’s that time of year again, time for the Autumn term coaching programmes to begin! We welcome a new coach to the team this Autumn, Aaron Bolitho, alongside Brian, Dan and Emma. For details of the new coaching programmes, please visit these pages:
Take a look at our weekly court schedule
too for an overview of what’s happening when.
The new Autumn coaching programme starts on Monday 5th September, and we’ve got a FREE taster day this Saturday from 10am-4pm. If you’d like to try tennis then this is your chance!
You can also check out the details of our coaching programmes here:
The coaching programmes are taking a break over the summer holidays, but there’s still plenty of tennis on offer at East Dorset!
- We have Club Play sessions on Monday and Wednesday nights, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and Saturday afternoons – with a mix-in fours format.
- We also have Improvers/Rusty Racquets sessions and a new Ladies Over 60s Morning, so there’s plenty of tennis to be played!
The Summer Schedule below shows what’s on when, and who to contact with any questions:
It may be midway through the summer holidays but we still have two weeks of tennis camps coming up for Mini and Junior players:
Mini Red (4-8 years old): 9am – 10.15am (£6 per day)
Junior (8-16 years old): 10.30am – 12.30pm (£9 per day)
- Monday 15th – Friday 19th August
- Monday 22nd – Friday 26th August
Please contact Brian on 07930 454764 for more details or to book a place!
East Dorset welcomed the Frost & Co Dorset Open 2016 from Sunday 31st July to Saturday 6th August, supervised by Tournament Referee Kris Dymond.
It was a busy week, with lots of competitive junior and adult matches, singles and doubles, and we welcomed juniors from across the country, including a group of youngsters from Scotland. Play continued despite tricky conditions in the opening days, but fortunately the weather improved as the week went on and the schedule caught up with itself.
For a full round up of results, please visit the LTA Tournaments website:
It was another successful week for East Dorset’s Louis Allen, who came third in the Men’s Singles, runner-up in the 18U Singles and Doubles, and won the Men’s Doubles with partner Liam Hignett – great play Louis!
Thanks to Kris and all the club volunteers who helped make the event a success, including Catherine, Sue and Liz at the tournament desk and all the match supervisors. In total 336 matches were played… so it was certainly a busy week!
Special congratulations go to Charlie Newman, winner of the Betty Booth Sportsmanship Award 2016, who showed great sportsmanship and enjoyment of the game throughout the week.
Are you looking for new people to play with but don’t want to enter a box league? Or would you like to have a hit midweek but don’t know who else is around? Then sign up for our Casual Hitters list and find yourself some people to play with!
We currently have 17 ladies and 14 men signed up, so that’s plenty of people to start arranging some singles or doubles. The lists are displayed on the Tennis Noticeboard in the club verandah, along with a sign up sheet for new players. All you have to do is give your name and contact details, and describe your general playing standard and availability. Then it’s a case of making some phone calls and arranging some games!
Help spread the word amongst club members, and enjoy your tennis!
