The mornings are a bit fresher and the evenings are starting to draw in… so it’s that time of year again, time for the Autumn term coaching programmes to begin! We welcome a new coach to the team this Autumn, Aaron Bolitho, alongside Brian, Dan and Emma. For details of the new coaching programmes, please visit these pages: weekly court schedule too for an overview of what’s happening when.
The coaching programmes are taking a break over the summer holidays, but there’s still plenty of tennis on offer at East Dorset!
- We have Club Play sessions on Monday and Wednesday nights, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and Saturday afternoons – with a mix-in fours format.
- We also have Improvers/Rusty Racquets sessions and a new Ladies Over 60s Morning, so there’s plenty of tennis to be played!
The Summer Schedule below shows what’s on when, and who to contact with any questions:
It may be midway through the summer holidays but we still have two weeks of tennis camps coming up for Mini and Junior players:
- Monday 15th – Friday 19th August
- Monday 22nd – Friday 26th August
East Dorset welcomed the Frost & Co Dorset Open 2016 from Sunday 31st July to Saturday 6th August, supervised by Tournament Referee Kris Dymond. It was a busy week, with lots of competitive junior and adult matches, singles and doubles, and we welcomed juniors from across the country, including a group of youngsters from Scotland. Play continued despite tricky conditions in the opening days, but fortunately the weather improved as the week went on and the schedule caught up with itself.

Thanks to Kris and all the club volunteers who helped make the event a success, including Catherine, Sue and Liz at the tournament desk and all the match supervisors. In total 336 matches were played… so it was certainly a busy week! Special congratulations go to Charlie Newman, winner of the Betty Booth Sportsmanship Award 2016, who showed great sportsmanship and enjoyment of the game throughout the week.

If you thought grass courts 1-6 were playing well, cialis wait until you play on the three courts in the cage! Officially opened on Thursday in time for ladies match practice in the evening, no rx the coaches and first team players who tried them out in the afternoon described them as excellent. Then in the evening 2 ladies doubles matches were played against Milford and the players were full of praise.
In the Autumn our groundsman Daniel Tomberry re-seeded the courts with rye grass and spread four tonnes of clay based top dressing over the surface, before drag netting in, to improve levelling and bounce. Now we can all reap the benefits!
