We’d like to wish all our members a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Here are the Club, Bar and Café opening times during Christmas 2016 and New Year 2017: Also, just a reminder that there will be social tennis as usual next Saturday afternoon (New Year’s Eve). Blue Hill Café will be closed, but the bar will be open from 1600 (and tea will also be available), so pop in for some celebratory drinks!
New to yoga or keen to improve? Then our friendly Sunday morning classes could be just the thing for you, taken by qualified yoga instructor Dee Nustedt. * * Please note the first yoga class in the New Year is Sunday 8th January * * Yoga is good for all people – young, old, male, female, fit or unfit – and particularly important for those undertaking sporting exercises where stretching, turning and flexibility of movement is always being tested. Benefits include increased flexibility and muscle tone, cardio health and protection from injury. Why not give it a try?
We would like to play tribute to Karen Adams, a tennis member at East Dorset for 36 years, who has recently stepped down from her role as Ladies County Captain after many years of captaincy. Karen has been a Dorset County Tennis player since 1979 representing Dorset at all age groups, including playing for over 20 years in the ladies county team. She has won many doubles titles during her time as a member at East Dorset, and has also been a member of West Hants Club for 11 years. Karen assumed the role as Ladies County Captain in 1997 serving on the council and since 2011 was part of the Dorset Executive Committee. Many members at East Dorset will remember Karen organising the Around the World static cycle challenge which was held at the club in 2011 with everyone wearing pink branded sweatshirts and cycling around the clock on exercise bikes in the function room. This event raised over £45,000 for the Dorset Cancer Centre at Poole Hospital, a cause which Karen decided to raise money for after receiving treatment. Karen lives in Poole and is currently a Station Manager for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service and the Fire Brigade union representative. In addition to her love of tennis, she is also a keen AFC Bournemouth supporter. Karen’s many years of service to Dorset tennis was recognised at the recent Dorset County LTA AGM at the West Hants Club.

We’re excited to announce that the catering and bar services at East Dorset have been taken over by Claudine and Colette of Blue Hill Cafe & Bar, who’ll be opening for business on Monday 14th November. Colette recently told us: “Blue Hill is excited to be starting at East Dorset on Monday 14th November with our chef Catherine who has almost 20 years of catering experience. As we are heading into the festive season we will be taking bookings for your Christmas lunches. Please speak to a member of our staff to secure your booking. Reservations will start from Monday 21st November. We look forward to meeting you all soon and serving you our delicious and creative menu!”We look forward to welcoming Claudine and Colette soon and hope that you’ll all support our new cafe and bar service at every opportunity!
Blue Hill Cafe & Bar menu Blue Hill will be providing a broader service than previously available, including longer opening hours (weekdays, all day Saturdays, and Sunday mornings 10am – 2pm), and they’ll be investing in a new coffee machine 🙂
Our annual bonfire and fireworks extravaganza on Saturday 5th November was a roaring success, with record numbers of people attending and a fantastic total raised for the club development fund. A big thanks to our sponsors Humphries Kirk, Sam FM and Frost & Co, as well as to all the club members who volunteered on the night (and with the clean up the following morning!) – we couldn’t have done it without you! Thanks for your support and see you all next year!
We hope you can join us for a friendly American Doubles tournament on Wednesday evening, to mark the end of this half-term. This will run instead of the usual club evening.
Led by Emma, play will start at 6pm so please arrive a bit early if you can for a warm up and to be sorted into fours. Otherwise please let Emma know in advance that you’ll be attending. It would also help greatly if everyone can play through to 8pm, to ensure that numbers remain constant.
You’re all invited to the clubhouse after play for nibbles and, if you’re lucky, prize presentations!
The mornings are a bit fresher and the evenings are starting to draw in… so it’s that time of year again, time for the Autumn term coaching programmes to begin! We welcome a new coach to the team this Autumn, Aaron Bolitho, alongside Brian, Dan and Emma. For details of the new coaching programmes, please visit these pages: weekly court schedule too for an overview of what’s happening when.
It may be midway through the summer holidays but we still have two weeks of tennis camps coming up for Mini and Junior players:
